Not just that but LAB is also coming back with an extra dose of creativity and livability. The Lab brings an impressive display of lights and classically creative installations for the stage every year and now the festival goers should be ready to be amazed once again with a tree-lined grassy knoll at the highest point of the festival grounds. This year, Bolognino’s production company, META, is bringing a new face of the line we all new from the years.
Regarding this matter, Justin Bolognino, the Father of META and Manager of THE LAB said that: “We decided to play with the environment rather than fight against it and use this limitation of no large tented structure to embrace philosophically and literally, the idea of decentralization,” he further said: “With blockchain and crypto burgeoning and exploding right now, we wanted to physically represent decentralization by instead of having a linear tour through the lab, you can pick and choose where you want to go at any given time.”
“We purposely boxed ourselves into a whole new approach,” said Bolognino. “We love limitations, we believe that parameters are what gets the most creative results. If it’s just a wide-open vacuum, you’re usually just a deer in headlights.”
The Dome Show is a six and a half minutes long story consisted of three parts that includes a score from St. Vincent and this year its going even more extravagant not only the festivalgoers will experience two parts of the story inside the magnificent dome but will also have the chance to see a brand-new Lab installation consisting upon the dome show which is a physical portal this portal leads to the Flatland that is a tunnel with an audio-visual show by Magenta Field.
“I think a lot of these technology or immersive experiences go wrong when the goal is the technology,” Bolognino said. “But what makes THE LAB so powerful is the technology is just the enabler of the experiences, it’s not the experience in and of itself. There is a sense of transcendence to it. The technology is there not to quell that, but to amplify the humanity of it all.”
Just as it has from last two years of Panorama, The Lab presents an extensive line of local artists. Justin Bolognino said: “Why Coachella is so successful is because it works with the natural environment of the desert,” he also said “The fundamental principle of Panorama is its a festival that can only exist in New York City. By introducing all this technology by art, we put the artists as rockstars.”
