ESSENCE Festival 2018
The Essence festival will be celebrating its 10th consecutive year of All-Star Gospel Tribute in honor of Gospel Music Legend, Dottie peoples, with an afternoon filled with performances from famous Stars.
As always, the show will hold up the All-Star Gospel Tribute with 3-day Conference and Expos Festivities on Sunday, 8th July. The day will start with the “Power Hour” presented by Bishop Lester Love. After that the host Cheryl Wills will take on the stage to lead the afternoon to a bombastic list of acts and performances that are sure to leave you astonished.
The stars that are chosen to honor Dottie Peoples include Smokie Norful, Marvin Sapp, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, George Potts Young & the Church Friends Band, Johnny Gill, Regina Belle, Lexi, Tyronne G. Foster and the Arc Singers and more.
Dottie People is an American Gospel singer. She started her singing career at an early age of 8 she began with singing at her church choir and later joined her high school Gospel choir. After Graduating form high school, she began the tour with Dorothy Norwood a member of caravan who is also a Gospel Music Pioneer. In her early days in music industry she arose as a jazz vocalist and won many awards for her singing, producing and writing songs in the same category. Not much satisfied with her non-religious music singer career she returned back to her Gospel Roots. She then launched her first solo album Surely God is Able, in 1984 after that she issued her next album Is It Worth It All, in 1987 and Live At Salem Baptist Church, in 1993.
Her 1995 Album, On Time God, earned her an instant fame in classical music and took her to the heights of her career as a Gospel Music star. She has a 30-year exemplary career has gotten her three Grammy nominations and several Stellar Awards in addition to others.
